The exhibition "The Flying Poet, Santos Dumont" showcases the talents of the Brazilian inventor, a visionary who dedicated himself to science and technology, inspired by art. Featuring audiovisual content and interactive activities, the exhibit includes prototypes of Santos Dumont's major creations and two full-size replicas: right at the museum entrance, the pioneering 14bis; and, at the exhibition site, the Demoiselle airplane, the inventor's most complete project. The exhibition's objective is to highlight Santos Dumont as a young entrepreneur who embraced concepts that are still relevant today: he made his designs available for replication, rather than registering patents, in a kind of creative commons before the term existed; one of the country's first contemporary designers, with precise, simple, and functional lines; one of the world's most celebrated Brazilians, who launched fashion in Paris, the world capital, at the beginning of the last century. In the year marking the 110th anniversary of the 14bis flight—the first officially certified flight in history—Santos Dumont serves as the guiding thread for a journey through the history of flight. "We highlight Santos Dumont's poetic and artistic side, hence the title 'the flying poet.' He was a man of science who drew inspiration from art—it was the stories of Jules Verne, for example, that sparked his dream of flying. In the exhibition, we show that exercising creativity is a way to drive discovery," says curator Gringo Cardia. "We want to celebrate Brazil's capacity for innovation and scientific endeavors, motivating young people and children to pursue scientific endeavors," explains Luiz Alberto Oliveira, curator of the Museu do Amanhã, emphasizing the importance of celebrating the Brazilian inventor during a time when Rio de Janeiro will be receiving many tourists due to the Olympics. "Santos Dumont is an iconic figure. He not only created a flying artifact, but also determined the process of flight." Visitors can try out an airplane The exhibition is divided into five areas. In the main room, seven scale models created by Santos Dumont—from the Brasil balloon to the Demoiselle airplane, a synthesis of all his projects, including the 14bis—showcase the evolution of the technology developed by the inventor. Interactive screens unfold several layers of content, bringing together documents, images, and digitized historical photos. A life-size Demoiselle (built in Samba City and transported to the Museum of Tomorrow) will be on display, and visitors can compete for a virtual "flight" through early 20th-century Paris and Rio de Janeiro, via video editing. A documentary about Santos Dumont's career occupies the Cinema Room, while in the Balloon Room, a film explores the inventions that inspired the poet and the evolution of the dream of flight, from the drawings of Leonardo da Vinci. In a fun way, visitors come into contact with physics concepts such as aerodynamics and engine mechanics in the Paper Airplane Workshop room: launched on a runway, the little planes trigger the Curiosities Game, in which videos show information about how aircraft work and many other interesting facts. The exhibition "The Flying Poet, Santos Dumont" is exclusively sponsored by Shell Brasil and supported by the Federal Government through the Federal Law for Cultural Incentives. The exhibition offers audio guides in English and Spanish for international audiences, as well as sign language and audio description.

A exposição “O poeta voador, Santos Dumont” apresenta a capacidade do inventor brasileiro, um visionário que se dedicou à ciência e à tecnologia inspirado pela arte. Com linguagem audiovisual e atividades interativas, o ambiente inclui protótipos das principais criações de Santos Dumont e duas réplicas em tamanho real: logo na entrada do Museu, o pioneiro 14bis; e, no local da exposição, o avião Demoiselle, mais completo projeto do inventor. O objetivo da exposição é destacar Santos Dumont como um jovem empreendedor adepto de conceitos ainda hoje atuais: disponibilizava seus projetos para que fossem replicados, em vez de registrar patente, em uma espécie de creative commons antes de o termo existir; um dos primeiros designers contemporâneos do país, com traços precisos, simples e funcionais; um dos brasileiros mais célebres do mundo, que lançou moda em Paris, capital do mundo no início do século passado. No ano em que se comemoram 110 anos do voo do 14bis – o primeiro oficialmente homologado da História –, Santos Dumont é o fio condutor para um passeio pela história do voar. “Destacamos o lado poético e artístico de Santos Dumont, daí o título ‘o poeta voador’. Ele era um homem de ciências que se inspirava na arte – foram as histórias de Júlio Verne, por exemplo, que o despertaram para o sonho de voar. Na exposição, mostramos que exercitar a criatividade é uma forma de impulsionar descobertas”, diz o curador Gringo Cardia. “Queremos valorizar a capacidade brasileira de inovar e de fazer ciência, motivando jovens e crianças para a atividade científica”, define o curador do Museu do Amanhã, Luiz Alberto Oliveira, que destaca a importância de celebrar o inventor brasileiro em um período em que o Rio de Janeiro receberá muitos turistas, por conta das Olimpíadas. “Santos Dumont é uma figura icônica. Ele criou não só um artefato que voa, mas determinou o processo de voar.” Visitante poderá experimentar avião A exposição se divide em cinco ambientes. Na sala principal, sete modelos em escala reduzida criados por Santos Dumont – do balão Brasil ao avião Demoiselle, síntese de todos os seus projetos, passando pelo 14bis – mostram a evolução da tecnologia desenvolvida pelo inventor. Em telas interativas, desdobram-se várias camadas de conteúdo, reunindo documentos, imagens e fotos históricas digitalizadas Um Demoiselle em tamanho real (construído na Cidade do Samba e transportado para o Museu do Amanhã) estará em exposição e os visitantes concorrem a um “voo” virtual por Paris e Rio de Janeiro do início do século XX, por meio de uma edição de vídeo. Um documentário sobre a trajetória de Santos Dumont ocupa a sala Cinema, enquanto na Sala dos Balões um filme passeia pelas invenções que inspiraram o poeta e a evolução do sonho de voar, desde os desenhos de Leonardo Da Vinci. De forma lúdica, o visitante tem contato com conceitos de Física como aerodinâmica e mecânica de motores na sala da Oficina de aviões de papel: lançados em uma pista, os aviõezinhos acionam o Jogo das Curiosidades, em que vídeos mostram informações sobre o funcionamento das aeronaves e muitas outras curiosidades. A exposição “O Poeta Voador, Santos Dumont” tem patrocínio exclusivo da Shell Brasil e apoio do Governo Federal, por meio da Lei Federal de incentivo à Cultura. A exposição oferece audioguia em inglês e espanhol, para o público estrangeiro, videolibras e audiodescrição.
