AWKWARD

Does AI scare you?

In May, artificial intelligence (AI) will be a hot topic in our forum. For these conversations that resonate with us, we want to know: Does AI scare you?

All of us, to a greater or lesser degree, have already been or will be impacted by artificial intelligence. It's not something distant—it's present in our daily lives, influencing the quality and speed of various creations, whether in offices, schools, or even when writing a simple message when we lack creativity.

According to research published by Resume Builder in June 2023, 40% of companies planned to adopt AI technologies in their recruitment processes by the end of 2024. A more recent study by MindMiners, titled "AI: Problem or Solution?", investigated how Brazilians perceive the impacts of artificial intelligence on society. The research interviewed 5,000 people from different social, racial, and gender backgrounds, and revealed that:

56% said they already use AI, 14% don't know yet, and 30% don't use it in their daily lives.

In academia, AI has also made a strong impact: 39% of participants use the technology for studies, while 41% employ it at work.

Furthermore, the popularization of artificial intelligence is driven by entertainment and personal use, from commands for virtual assistants like Alexa to personalized movie and music recommendations. In the scientific field, Machine Learning has been essential for predicting extreme weather events and accelerating experiments, becoming a powerful tool for suggesting and optimizing research.

However, technological advancement also brings significant environmental impacts. The high energy consumption and emissions from the supply chains of data centers, responsible for training AIs, are growing concerns. According to Google's annual environmental report (2024), the company increased its greenhouse gas emissions by almost 50% in the last five years, attributing this growth to the energy demand for cooling AI servers. In 2023, emissions exceeded 14 million tons of CO₂, a 13% increase compared to the previous year.

Between benefits, challenges, and setbacks, AI continues to transform the way we live. And you, what do you think about all this? Come to Climão!
