Simbioses — Intercâmbio de Verão 2026

The Simbioses — Summer Exchange 2026 is part of the curatorial cycle “Sustainability is Coexistence,” which guides the Museum of Tomorrow's activities between 2025 and 2030. This call for proposals aims to select young creators and researchers from diverse backgrounds, committed to producing critical thinking and innovative practices that contribute to the curatorial scope of the Museum of Tomorrow.

PRESENTATION

The Museum of Tomorrow, an institution of the City Hall of Rio de Janeiro managed by the Institute for Development and Management (IDG), hereby publishes this Call for Applications for the Symbioses program — Summer Exchange 2026, a formative and experimental action that is part of the Museum's annual curatorial cycle.

Inspired by the complexity of natural ecosystems, Simbioses presents itself as a space for creative and collective immersion, dedicated to investigating the interdependencies between art, science, technology, and society, with a focus on imagining more sustainable and diverse futures.

The program understands knowledge as a living network, in which different presences, practices, and perspectives intertwine, mutually transforming the cultural field. By articulating theoretical training, practical experimentation, and public dialogue, Simbioses seeks to challenge the role of cultural institutions as ecosystems of creation, care, and transformation.

Beyond its formative character, Simbioses reaffirms the importance of considering multiple perspectives and experiences in the conceptual articulation proposed by the Museum of Tomorrow. The presence of participants from different backgrounds, trajectories, and fields of knowledge is understood as an essential element to expand the curatorial horizon of the Museum and deepen the dialogue between academic knowledge, community experiences, and artistic practices, promoting a truly collective and plural creative process.

CONTEXT

The curatorial cycle “Sustainability is Coexistence,” which guides the Museum of Tomorrow's activities between 2025 and 2030, proposes understanding sustainability not only as environmental preservation, but as a relational practice that emerges from the encounter between different knowledge, ways of life, and cultural perspectives.

For the period 2025–2030, the four elements of nature — water, fire, earth, and air — are taken as ethical, social, and symbolic matrices of common life, inspiring a curatorial journey that invites the public to reflect on the interdependencies that sustain the planet and our ways of coexisting.

Simbioses 2026 is anchored in the FIRE axis — transformation, power, and conflict, which marks the second chapter of the cycle. From this axis, the program will seek to explore the role of energy as a force, reflecting on the urgency of present-day social, technological, and environmental transformations.
